Welcome to The Guernsey Foundation
[Guernsey Cow]

The Guernsey Foundation is a charitable organization that is tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code. Organized in 1969, The Guernsey Foundation is under the direction of The Guernsey Foundation Committee and is defined by a trust agreement. The Foundation is devoted to and applies its principal and income for the advancement of education and scientific research in dairy husbandry, dairy technology, and the dairy industry as a whole, either directly or by contribution to organizations duly authorized to carry on such charitable, scientific or educational activities.

The Guernsey Foundation committee has full power to accept gifts, grants and bequests and to make both investment and grant decisions. Many distinguished Guernsey breeders have served on the committee. Currently, Mr. Myron Erdman - Chenoa, IL, Mr. E.R. Berousek - Yukon, OK and Mr. Daniel Brubaker - Dayton, VA make up the committee. Mr. Seth Johnson - American Guernsey Association Executive Secretary-Treasurer serves as administrative secretary for the committee.
The Guernsey Foundation has made grants in the past for the following research:
1. To study Johnes Disease - a condition prevalent in all ruminant species.
2. Seasonal changes in butterfat production.
3. Sire evaluations for longevity.
4. Whipping and Foaming characteristics of Milk.
5. Effect of sire's influence on dam/daughter production comparisons.
6. Beta-Carotene in milk.
7. Functional Herdlife studies to evaluate longevity and type traits.

The Guernsey Foundation is currently soliciting bids for a project that evaluates the use of Guernsey genetics in commercial crossbreeding schemes in order to increase these genes in an industry dominated by other breeds. Another area that might be considered is how to most efficiently increase animal numbers beginning from a small population. The Guernsey Foundation will consider unsolicited grant proposals, which follow the guidelines of the Foundation's mandates.

The Guernsey Foundation trust is funded from various sources. Receiving gifts is the most common. Some gifts are cash. Some gifts are property. Some Guernsey breeders have gifted their entire herds to The Foundation. Several gifts have been substantial. In appreciation of all giving from $100 up, The Guernsey Foundation responds with different levels of recognition. Presenting a suitably engraved plaque to the donor and listing the donors name on a permanently displayed plaque in the home office recognizes the following gifts over $5,000:
· Over $100,000. - Founder
· Over $50,000 - Benefactor
· Over $25,000 - Fellow
· Over $10,000 - Presidents Club
· Over $5,000 - Patron
A Certificate of Appreciation will recognize all other donations over $100.

The Guernsey Foundation desires and values your contributions. It is a wonderful way to give back to a breed fraternity in a tax-deductible manner.
