2 from Louisville and 2 from Madison - just a few of the Grand Champion Tropihes won by Four Winds
Plaques and banners from National Shows covered the walls in the machine shed where the sale was held.
The Four Winds semen inventory was sold by silent auction and mementos of years and years of promotion were spread around the building.
Parking was at a school next to the farm. Thanks to the parking attendants who worked hard Friday and Saturday in the cold and snow.
A light layer of snow blanketed the farm on sale morning. More would fall during the sale. The milking barn is in the background

WI Sec. of Agriculture Ben Brancel (left) and Dale Chupp work the huge crowd. Judy Whalen of Friendship Farm in NY(center, blue scarf) hunkers down with Aaron and Amy Gable, Snider Homestead of PA. Although the building kept attendees out of the wind, the outside temperature was below freezing all day.
The youngest calves - these 6 heifers averaged over $6,800.
The newest arrival on the farm - Lot 62 was a Grumpy calf from Lot 44. She sold to Balmoral Farm of OH.

With Tom Morris selling the first two, Gary Estes helps Lot 29, the Res. All-American Spring Yearling for 2010, move in the ring. She sold for $12,200 to Daniel Basse of IL. Tim Baumgartner waits at the door with Lot 3. She is pictured below in the sale ring. Lot 32, the 2009 & 2010 Madison Grand Champion sold for $11,200 to Tom Bailey of New Sharon, Maine. Initially unsure he could bear to watch the sale, Clark Vilter manned the manure fork next to the ring throughout the sale and took the halter of Highlite when she became unruly in the ring.
Lauren McDonald pulls Lot 63 into the ring. Mom Tina and grandma Joy can be seen in the background. The business end of Lot 13, purchased for $4,800 by Wesley Aiken of PA. Her yearling daughters sold for $10,000 and $6,200.

Four Winds Valiant Serena, Lot 35. The 2010 WDE Intermeidate Champion. She sold open and fresh a year but brought a bid of $6,300 from Scott Weisensel of WI. The active crowd kept him warmed up. The crowd wasn't limited to Guernsey breeders. Brothers Dale and Stanley Chupp of Oklahoma's Chupps Guernsey Farm have stood in the Reserve Grand Champion spot behind a Four Winds animal at a National Show at least 4 times, and both enthusiastically took bids from the huge crowd throughout the sale. 5 of the Vilter grandchildren donned their Four Winds jackets and braved the cold before the start of the sae.
