2007 National Guernsey Convention Sale Monday, June 25, 2007 Kirkwood Community College Livestock Pavilion, Cedar Rapids, Iowa The 2007 Edition of the National Sale lived up to its billing as the the best offering of Guernsey genetics ever assembled when 42 lots averaged $4,879, the highest average ever posted for a National Convention Sale. 71 embryos sold, averaging $598 each. The 41 females averaged $4,703, an average that still ranks at the top of all National Sales. Easily topping the sale at $23,600 was Lot 1, Dix Lee Tiller Joke, EX-90. The #11 CPI Cow in the breed and the 2006 All-American Jr. Two-Year-Old, Joke presented a complete package for the showring and in merchandising power. This Tiller daughter sold with a bull contract for the Silverado calf she is carrying and an embryo contract. Just finishing up a 24,000M 1,150F record, Joke is from an EX-90 dam with 25,000M and 1,140F. The next five dams are VG or EX and family members include several show winners and AI bull mothers. Chris Lang of Springhill Farm in Big Prairie, Ohio, was the succesful bidder with Kathryn Dill of Jordanville, New York, contending. Joke was consigned by Dix Lee Farm of Phillipsburg, Missouri. The second high seller was Flambeau Manor C Lexus-ET, a young bull bred by Gary van Doorn of Tony, Wisconsin. He sold for $12,000 to the Lexus Syndicate and Genex of Shawano, Wisconsin. Sired by Idle Gold E Challenge-ET, Lexus is out of an EX-91 Goliath daughter with over 140,000M lifetime. She is backed by two VG dams, both with over 800F and 700P. Proceeds from the sale of Lexus benefit the AGA Promotion Fund. Topping the impressive lineup of young heifers in the sale was Lavon Farms Lewis Blist, a January 2006 heifer that sold shortbred to Challenge. Blist is a Lewis daughter from an EX-90 Lorry out of Perfect Bliss, EX-92. The Lorry had a top record of 21,000M while Perfect Bliss boasts a former spot atop the CPI list, a Madison Champion trophy and All-American accolades among her many accomplishments. The heifer sold for $8,500 to Dan and Nancy Brubaker of Shenmont Farm in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Idle Gold Farm of Comstock, Wisconsin. She was consigned by Lavon Farms of Plano, Texas. Also from Lavon Farms was Lot 2, the daughter of Moziers Lux Anne of Lavon Farms, VG-89. Lux Anne was the All-American Sr. Two-Year-Old in 2006 and was recently fresh again after having made over 800F last year. Lux Anne was the Reserve Grand Champion of the NGS-Louisville in 2006. The granddam of the March 2006 heifer was EX-91. Anastasia Boulet of Jordanville, New York, purchased the heifer. Rounding out the top sellers in the sale was a choice of three heifers from the famed Andora family from Knapps Guernseys in Epworth, Iowa. Selling for $7,600 to Millborne Farm of Granby, Connecticut, and Faria Farms of Escalon, California, the buyers chose one of the Regis daughters born in March 2007 from Knapps Perfectos Adora, EX-90. Adora is a 7th-Generation Excellent and the 5th generation in the family with over 1,200F. She recently completed a record over 40,000M and 1,390P, giving her over 125,000M lifetime. The sale was managed by GMS and the Iowa Guernsey breeders. Sale Chairs were Chad Winke and Don Eilers, who arranged for a novel sale ring that included a working water fountain in the center of the ring and attractive landscaping. Stanley Chupp called the sale with Blaine Crosser making announcements. Bob Griggs, Dale Chupp and Jim Trotter took bids. Maria and Cindy Chupp clerked the sale. Cattle were presented by Tyler Chupp, Jean Gallagher, Jade Jensen and Austin Knapp. The crew that prepared the consingments in expert fashion was directed by Jason Robinson and included Erica Davis, Mike Hickman, Caleb Arp, Nick Smith and Bud Yoder.
