The 27th Blue Halter Calf Sale was held on April 22 in Bedford, Pennsylvania. A huge crowd from across the country gathered to review the traditionally strong consignments that have become the norm in this sale. The Pennsylvania GBA celebrated their 75th Anniversary in 2006 and had an all-time high average for the sale series to celebrate that evening. 42 lots averaged $2,929.
The HM All-American Fall Calf from 2005 sold for a final bid of $10,000, making the third year in a row that this sale has commanded a five-digit price for the sale topper. Lavon Farms Tiller Hemmy was the high seller, going to Gary Estes of Rogersville, Missouri. Out of a VG-87 Royal Oak dam, she sold due to Legacy in October. Lavon Farms of Plano, Texas, consigned the heifer.
Snider Valors Ashlyn-ET brought the second highest price of the day at $7,100. This Four-Year-Old daughter of Cedar Fringed Altann, EX-95, scored EX-90 the week after the sale and made over 20,000M as a two-year-old. She was consigned by Spencer Weimer of Emlenton, Pennsylvania, and purchased by Daniel Frommherz of Springfield, Oregon.
Mike Weimer was the auctioneer with Dave Smith reading pedigrees. Jim and Dave Trotter took bids. Patty and John Marchezak clerked the sale.
