2010 National Guernsey Convention Sale Monday, June 21, 2010 Hosted by Warwick Manor Farm, East Earl, Pennsylvania The 2010 National Sale was held on June 21 at Warwick Manor Farm in East Earl, Pennsylvania. Kevin and Dina Stoltzfus and their extended family provided a wonderful setting for the most exciting sale of the year in the Guernsey breed. The offering averaged $4,153 on 43 live lots. 30 embryos averaged $434 each.
The top seller was Lot #1, the Natural calf from Indian Acres MM Pistachio Pie, EX-94. She sold for $15,000 to Warwick Manor and Hollow View of East Earl and Quarryville, PA. She was consigned by Ashley Sears of S Deerfield, MA. The calf was long and tall with lots of style. Her dam was the Supreme Champion of the All-American Dairy Show and World Dairy Expo in 2007 and has a top record over 23,000M and nearly 1,200F. The calf has four brothers in AI sampling programs.
An October 2009 calf sired by Edgewater Meadows Yogibear-ET was the second high seller at $10,100. Her dam is Cedar Fringed Altann, EX-95. The calf can claim 5 maternal brothers on the Active AI list and 7 EX maternal sisters. Altann was Grand Champion at Madison and Harrisburg and made over 168,000M lifetime. She was consigned by Snider Homestead of New Enterprise, PA, and purchased by Dr. Joe Piskorowski of Ithaca, New York.
Third high honors went to a fancy Idle Gold E Challenge-ET daughter born in June 2009. Her dam is Dix Lee Tiller Joke, EX-93, an All-American that also ranks among the top 20 in the breed for index. The calf has 3 maternal brothers in AI sampling programs. Joke is projected over 25,000M and 1,200F this lactation. The heifer sold for $9,000 to John and Bonnie Ayars of Mechanicsburg, Ohio. She was consigned by Springhill Farm of Big Prairie, Ohio.
Fourth high was a Challenge March 2010 calf from six Excellent dams. The extra fancy calf sold for $7,400 to Friendship Farm, Myown Guernseys and the Meyer Family of New York and Illinois. She was consigned by Knapps Guernseys of Epworth, Iowa. Her dam was an EX-90 Breighton with over 115,000M lifetime. The next dam was EX-91 and nominated All-American, followed by 4 more Excellent dams including EX-95 Pinebreeze Telestar Andora.
The sale was managed by Guernsey Marketing Service and Pennsylvania GBA. Stanley Chupp of Inola, Oklahoma, was auctioneer and Blaine Crosser of Marysville, Ohio, made pedigree announcements. Ringmen included Mike Weimer, Jim Trotter, Brian Schnebly and Chris Reichard of Pennsylvania and Dale Chupp of Oklahoma. The cattle were presented in the ring by Emily Stuff, Justin Kaufman and Tim Frantz. John and Patty McMurray clerked the sale. Jason Robinson, Erica Davis, Mike Hickman, Randy Allen, Mark Riley and Alan Moore cared for the animals and prepared them beautifuly for the sale.
