The New York Carousel Guernsey Sale was held on Friday evening, April 11, in Syracuse, New York. 18 calves averaged $1,558.
The top seller was Lot #1, a choice from seven December calves sired by Ripley Farms R Oak Royalty-ET and out of Low Brook Goldfoot Conny, EX-90 . Consigned by Ripley Farm of Cortland, New York, the choice brough a top bid of $4,400 from Morey Miller of Granby, Connecticut. The calf has 51 registered maternal siblings, making her dam the most prolific cow in the history of the Guernsey breed. The dam has records over 26,000M and 1,100F and seven VG or EX daughters, including an EX-91 2007 All-American nominee.
The second high seller was also a December 2007 daughter of Ripley Farms R Oak Royalty-ET. This well-grown and powerful calf was consigned by Wayne Johnson of Frankfort, New York, and was purchased by Evelyn Ripley of Cortland, New York, for $2,700.
The sale was managed by the New York State Guernsey Breeders with assistance from The Cattle Exchange. Dave Rama served as the auctioneer while Seth Johnson made announcements. Andrea Grant from Ripley Farms headed up the fitting crew with assistance from her many cousins. Roland Ripley, Wayne and Betsy Foote and Dick Whalen provided cattle selections and sale preparations.
