The 2010 edition fo the Blue Halter Sale proved to be a resounding success, despite challenging times in the dairy industry. 40 Registered Guernseys averaged $2,176. A huge crowd from all over the country gathered for the event and filled the sale building.

The top seller at $4,000 was a Sr. 2-Year-Old for 2010 due in June from a Very Good dam. Sired by Mar Ral Tiller Mission, the big, powerful heifer was first Fall Calf at the 2008 MD State Fair and boasted an EX-91 third dam. She was consigned by Warwick Manor Farm of East Earl, PA, and purchased by Dan St. Pierre of Berwick, ME.

The second high seller was a Yogibear Winter Calf consigned by Trotacre Farm of Enon Valley, Pennsylvania. She brought a bid of $3,700 from David & Jason Henisee of Mt. Joy, Pennsyvlania. Her VG-84 dam has over 900F and is out of a VG Tyler with over 900F. The next seven dams are all Very Good or Excellent.

Good for third high in the sale was a $3,650 price for a June '09 Lang Haven Spider Nomar daughter from a VG-85 dam with over 18,000M. The heifer was consigned by Snider Homestead Farm of New Enterprise, Pennsylvania, and purchased by John Fudge of Gamaliel, Kentucky. She was named Reserve Junior Champion at the Syracuse Carousel Spring Show the week prior to the sale.

The sale was well managed by the PA Guernsey Breeders, headed up by Jim Trotter. The auctioneer was Mike Weimer with David Smith making pedigree announcements. Jim Trotter, Dave Trotter, Chris Reichard and Lee Kohler took bids from the active crowd.

The Crowd is always warm and dry at the Blue Halter Sale. The building was full this year!

The sale began with a choice of the 3 Spring Calves in the sale. All three entered the ring at once and the first high bidder of the day had their choice of any of the three.

The high seller was already on her way to Maine when the gavel fell for the last time. However, the second high seller is pictured above with the third high pictured below.

Jim Trotter, PA GBA Business Manager does a fantastic job of selecting the very best from all over the east for this sale every year. He was all smiles as the sale began.
