Three Brooks Guernseys Selling 96 Registered Guernseys Saturday, October 18, 2008 At The Farm ~ Frederick, Maryland 11:00 am The Three Brooks Dispersal sale averaged $1,724 on 92 total lots on October 18 in Frederick, Maryland. The all homebred herd was owned by David and Edgar Hawker. The 82 cows and bred heifers that comprised the Three Brooks herd averaged $1,758, while 10 open heifers consigned by Walnut Ridge Dairy of Middletown, Maryland, averaged $1,448. The top seller of the day was Three Brooks Alstar Pixie, the #13 CPI Cow in the breed. She sold fresh just three weeks after scoring VG-84 and making 20,000M and 900F in her first lactation. She is sired by Sniders Ronalds Alstar and out of a Fortress dam with over 18,000M. She was purchased by Seth Kohler of Marodore Farm in Baltimore, Ohio, for $4,000. Paul Ewing of Spencerville, Ohio, took home the second high seller with a $3,600 bid. She is Three Brooks Natural Valance, a daughter of Lang Haven Decision Natural due in January. Her dam is a VG-87 Royal Acres Enhancer JB daughter that tested 5.0% fat and 3.9% protein on her last lactation. The next dam was VG-84 and tested 5.2% and 3.8%. Animals sold to 7 states. Of particular interest were 3 bred heifers sired by Natural that averaged $2,533. All three had pwoerful front ends and were extra long-bodied. Also, three milking daughters of Alstar, two second lactation and one late first averaged $3,100. They all had impressive udders and a strong will to milk. Other daughters of young sires included agreat uddered Grumpy and a youthful Labron. The sale was managed by Guernsey Marketing Service. Steve Andrews of Wooster, Ohio, called the sale while Seth Johnson made pedigree announcements. Seth Andrew, Kurt, Lynn, and Jim Trotter took bids. Katie Dixon and Erin Spurrier clerked the sale.
